'Rush Hour 3' banned in China
The third installment of the 'Rush Hour' trilogy, starring Chinese star Jackie Chan, has been banned in China. The film ignited some controversy over a scene in which a Chinese family, involved with the Triads, visits Paris. But the government run Film Bureau has insisted that this scene has nothing to do with its executive decision to pull the movie from Chinese theaters. according to Box Office Mojo the first two films in the series were hits in China and with the legacy of star Jackie chan it would seem plausible that the third installment would follow suit. IMDB is quoting Xiao Ping, member of China Film Groups import and export department, as saying "We think that it will not be popular in China." The decision echoes the harsh trimming that imported films go through in China, like the trimming of Pirates star Chow Yun-Fat from the third installment of that trilogy earlier this year. Under current laws China only allows 20 films to be imported for theatrical exhibition per year.
