Celluloid Notes - what are you watching?

Celluloid Notes - December 2007

An interview with cinematographer Roger Deakins

I recently had the privilege of interview Roger Deakins (he shot The Shawshank Redemption, Fargo, No Country for Old Men, The Assassination of Jesse James, KunDun, etc. etc.). We chatted about his history in documentary film, working with the Coen Brothers, and his new films No Country for Old Men, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and In the Valley of Elah. I didn't really have the forum to mention it on the magazine, but he was a wonderful interview, really down to earth, interesting man. You can find the interview here .

Interview with Yuri Ono from Learning to Love You More

I recently interviewed artist Yuri Ono from Learning to Love You More , an online arts project she works on with Harrell Fletcher and Miranda July, for InDigest Magazine .

Can't really put much more than that I guess. It's an interesting interview and their site is really amazing, if you haven't seen it yet you need to check it out. But you can read the interview here .

InDigest: a new online journal

InDigest Magazine (InDigestmag.com)

So I'm one of four editors who has started a new online journal called InDigest. I decided to post a notice on the blog so everyone can see why i haven't been posting as much. The site is InDigestmag.com . The magazine features new fiction, poetry, art, interviews (this issue has Alain Badiou, JoAnna James and Yuri Ono from Learning to Love You More - The next issue will feature Roger Deakins - Coen Bros cinematographer - Zak Sally, Nate Denver and more). Check it out, I think it's looking stellar, still has a few kinks to work out, but it's pretty solid for just being launched today. So check it out, let me know what you think, thanks for reading my blog, or continuing to read my blog in my absence.

Oh and in the next issue we are beginning reviews, so look for that.

If you really dig what you see we are currently seeking submissions for issues four and five, as well as looking for another full time writer...just mentioning it, there aren't a lot of spots but i know there are some pretty swell writers in the Orble community.

Oswald's Ghost: reassessing JFK's assassination

Oswald's Ghost

Again, a linked review...

But I recently reviewed the new Robert Stone documentary for Film-Forward. It's an interesting film, especially for the pseudo-Robert Greenwald/Eugene Jarecki vibe that it's going for. It's really an attempt to make sense of the JFK assassination in a modern context. To figure out why this still interests Americans and what it tells us about the American mindset in a post-9/11 sense. The film is far from perfectly executed, but it is interesting, possibly more interesting than it realizes, because it never develops the interesting theoretical points that arise. Anyhow, you can read the review here.

Trailer for the film:
